And when the Supreme Court restricted nationwide injunctions, raising the possibility that the unconstitutional policy could partially go into effect, we immediately filed another lawsuit and successfully blocked implementation. We sued the administration for illegally detaining students and scholars – and secured release for each of them, in the cases of Mohsen Mahdawi, Rümeysa Öztürk, Dr. Badar Khan Suri, and Mahmoud Khalil. Because the First Amendment and our fundamental right to free speech applies to everyone in this country, regardless of immigration status. We filed dozens of Freedom of Information Act requests with multiple government agencies demanding transparency into DOGE's access to and use of our sensitive data. When the government ignored many of our requests, we filed a lawsuit to enforce them. The White House recently partnered with PragerU, and MAGA school officials across the country are embracing PragerU's climate denial and "anti-wokeness." Some districts are even working with PragerU to implement an "anti-woke" test for new teachers.2,3 The Trump administration is also raising the profile of PragerU by featuring it as part of the White House's 250-year celebration of America.4 In PragerU's 2022 annual report, the far-right content mill said that they are, "Arming parents and educators with the pro-America content they are craving — we are going toe-to-toe with massive youth media companies like PBS Kids and Disney."5 After Trump and the GOP defunded the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, PragerU is ready to fill the role of PBS in both schools and homes. Shortly after PragerU showed AI videos of early American leaders speaking in MAGA slogans at an event with the administration, Trump began putting pressure on the Smithsonian to remake its museums and rewrite history to fall in line with his views. Trump ranted on Truth Social that the Smithsonian focuses too much on "how bad slavery was."6 PragerU fits perfectly with Trump's attempt to distort the past, as its videos have spread lies about the history of American slavery and mass murder of Indigenous peoples. PragerU founder, Dennis Prager, even said at a Moms for Liberty event in 2023 that his media outlet does indoctrinate kids and that there's nothing wrong with that.7 Trump and PragerU are both trying to expand the insidious reach of their extreme ideologies into public schools. We need to stop this major move towards right-wing indoctrination before PragerU is in every classroom in America. How aggressively and obediently will the Defense Department and the National Guard follow orders when asked to confront American citizens? 2. How will the federal courts — especially the Supreme Court — respond to legal challenges? Will they stand in his way or once again expand his power? 3. Will the media, especially right-wing outlets like Fox News and Newsmax, go along with a Trump-led military coup d'état? 4. Will it be an effective distraction from the Jeffery Epstein scandal? 5. How will it play with the MAGA base? Trump's voters are intensely loyal to him, but many are also deeply suspicious of the federal government. 6. How will it play with Republicans in Congress? Trump knows he has them cowed most of the time, but will they back him if and when he goes national with a full-scale military occupation? Bottom line: If the country goes along with Trump's occupation of the nation's capital, he will take that as a signal that he can go even further — and it's critically urgent that we take action now to stop him.
