Huge vote TODAY on the survival of public radio

We're on the verge of blocking huge cuts to public radio and TV in the Senate. Please take action now.

Harris,

The Senate has just four days left to pass Donald Trump's massive $1.1 billion funding cut for public radio and television — and CNN is reporting that this fight is going down to the wire and could be decided by a single vote.1,2

Trump's cuts would rescind two full years of funding for public broadcasting, and an internal public radio analysis projected that 18 percent of public radio stations could be forced to shut down if all federal funding was eliminated.3

Senate Republican leaders are pushing to hold the first procedural vote on these cuts TODAY, but if we can keep up the pressure on, we can save public broadcasting!4

Since Trump was sworn in, we've seen an intense, coordinated assault on public broadcasting.

Trump's FCC chair falsely accused public radio and television of running illegal ads. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene dragged public broadcasting executives before her committee to attack them as "anti-American."5 Trump's Department of Education terminated the Ready To Learn program, which funds public television's beloved educational programming.6

But the biggest threat of all came when Trump formally requested that Congress rescind $1.1 billion in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, effectively defunding public broadcasting nationwide.

Some stations rely on the federal government for as much as half of their operating budgets.7 It would be impossible for local stations, especially those in rural and small-town communities, to fill that sudden funding gap.

That's why local station directors have described these cuts as a "crisis," a "punch to the gut," and a potential "death sentence."8

The good news is that public broadcasting has wide bipartisan support in red as well as blue parts of the country, and Republican senators are feeling tremendous pressure from constituents to protect public media.9

At least four Republican senators expressed opposition to Trump's cuts, so this is a fight we can win. But this is the moment of truth, and we're counting on your support to help us flood Capitol Hill with phone calls, emails, and petitions to help save public broadcasting.

Will you donate $20 to help save public radio and television, and push for other key reforms?

With gratitude,
