Gina Ortiz Jones here. I had to reach out after the week we've had here in Texas.
As you may have seen, Vice President Kamala Harris was in Houston last week to talk about my state's extreme abortion ban and the threat to our fundamental freedoms posed by Republican extremists on the ballot this year.
(And yes, Beyoncé showed up to support her. Texas women do not mess around when our freedom is at stake, y'all.)
I know the EMILYs List community is proud to stand with Democratic pro-choice champions like VP Harris every step of the way — because I've experienced that support firsthand. EMILYs List had my back during my congressional runs in 2018 and 2020, and we're aligned again this year.
This time, our shared goal is to get MAGA extremists OFF the Texas Supreme Court and fill those seats with pro-choice justices. (EMILYs List has endorsed Judge Christine Weems to do just that!) Three anti-choice SCOTX justices are up for reelection right now; their first time on the ballot since ruling last year that Kate Cox, who was critically ill at the time, could not have an abortion to save her life under Texas law.
After reading the decision in the Kate Cox case, I started Find Out PAC to unseat those three SCOTX incumbents. Gerrymandering prevents us from having a formal ballot initiative, so unseating these three — holding them accountable for the bench's cruelty — is our best shot.
