The gig economy has grown significantly in the past decade, offering flexibility but exploiting workers.
Off key Republicans introduced a measure to block a new Biden administration rule to classify some gig workers as employees which would grant them eligibility for benefits, overtime pay, and minimum wage protections.
Derek knows what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck as a gig worker. In Congress he'll fight for fair treatment, just compensation, and dignified workplaces for everyone.
Between 10 and 30 percent of employers misclassify their employees as independent contractors to avoid complying with minimum wage and overtime pay, and to pass more of the risks and costs to workers.
Gig workers often work for less than minimum wage. They don't get sick leave or workers compensation… while the companies they work for make record profits!
America's workers continue to get stomped on by Republicans. We need pro-labor champs in Congress who will strike the right note!
