My race against the “craziest and most dangerous Republican running for governor this year”

Hi Harris, it’s Josh Stein, Democratic nominee for governor in North Carolina. As you read this, my opponent Mark Robinson just stepped off the Republican National Convention stage. I’m not exaggerating when I say we’re in a fight for North Carolina’s future. In each of these roles, I have taken on the big fights and won – standing up for our most fundamental freedoms and defending the interests of North Carolinians at every turn. Now, I’m ready to do the same as Governor. In contrast, Mark Robinson’s vision for the future is more about division and conspiracy theories than helping North Carolinians succeed. He’s called public educators “wicked,” has boasted that he has “AR-15s in case the government gets too big for its britches,” and has said time and time again that he wants a total ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest or even to protect the life of the mother. Two weeks ago, he even said “some folks need killing.” It’s no surprise that when I recently spoke with Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC he called Mark Robinson the “craziest and most dangerous Republican running for governor this year.” But this race is too close to call. Mark Robinson and I are neck and neck in the polls, so the outcome will likely be decided on the smallest of margins. And the stakes could not be higher: our freedoms are on the line.
