Bunny – The Trump administration has unleashed a dizzying array of extreme attacks designed to create chaos and destroy our fundamental rights. But the ACLU of Massachusetts and supporters like you have made clear that we won't back down. That's simply not the spirit of our state. At such a chaotic time, it can be hard to keep track of all the crucial work that's happening right now, across the nation, to preserve our civil rights and civil liberties. Even in Massachusetts alone, the task before us can seem staggering. Here are just a few ways we're fighting back: - This weekend, we welcomed our client Rümeysa Öztürk home to Massachusetts. Since she was arrested and detained in Louisiana for over six weeks, our attorneys have been working around the clock to secure her freedom while her case proceeds. Writing an op-ed is not a crime.
- Next week, we're in court on behalf of Harvard Medical School doctors who've had their patient safety research removed from a government-run website – merely because they include a single sentence about LGBTQ patients. This censorship is an attack on science.
- And in another case of censorship, we'll be in court the very next day on behalf of researchers who are challenging the abrupt cancellation of NIH research grants. Cancelling grants due to political ideology jeopardizes medical discoveries, impacts public health, and violates the law.
Let's be clear: These attacks on speech and due process harm real people. But rest assured: your ACLU is showing up – every single day – not just in the courts, but at the State House, in communities, and anywhere we're needed to protect the rights of all Bay Staters. We are building firewalls for freedom right here in Massachusetts, and we couldn't do it without your continued support. So, thank you, from all of us here at the ACLU team. The work is hard, and the threats are dire, but don't worry – we're not going anywhere. In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
