Harris,
In 2022, we won a historic battle to expand Medicaid in South Dakota, delivering healthcare access to over 50,000 of our neighbors. We fought to end years of injustice, joining 37 other states that had already recognized healthcare as a right, not a privilege. This was a life-saving, grassroots victory for working families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Now, extremist Republicans in Congress are hell bent on undoing it all. Their latest budget proposal instructs lawmakers to slash a staggering $880 billion from Medicaid over the next 10 years. They're trying to impose federal work requirements that would lead to millions losing coverage.
Make no mistake: these cuts aren't about efficiency or "waste." They're about punishing poor and working-class Americans while handing out more tax breaks to the wealthy and big corporations. These cuts would hit people from South Dakota to California hard, especially rural communities, caregivers, and those living with chronic illness who rely on Medicaid to survive.
We can't allow Congress to dismantle the care we fought for. Not after everything we've built. Not after so many lives have already been saved. This is a full-blown assault on our values, our health, and our future. Tell Congress: Hands off Medicaid. NO cuts. NO restrictions. NO exceptions.
Healthcare is a human right. When Congress comes for Medicaid, they're coming for the most vulnerable people in our country, veterans, seniors, kids, and working folks just trying to get by.
Let's be crystal clear: work requirements are nothing but a backdoor scheme to kick people off the rolls. Republicans know exactly what they're doing. When Arkansas implemented similar rules, tens of thousands of people lost coverage, not because they were lazy or unwilling to work, but because of confusing paperwork, digital barriers, and red tape.
It didn't improve employment. It devastated lives.
Now they want to nationalize that disaster, and they're counting on you not paying attention. They're hoping we will forget what we just fought for. They want to override our vote, our values, and our voice. We can't let them get away with it.
We have been in this fight from day one. We've taken on billion-dollar lobbies, beaten back extremists, and organized one of the most successful Medicaid expansion campaigns in the nation. But if we're going to stop these cuts, we need every single voice. That includes yours.
Tell Congress: NO Medicaid cuts. NO to kicking people off care. YES to the will of the people. Now!
Let's stand together, fight back, and stop this attack on Medicaid before it's too late.
