This IRS nominee pushed fake tax credits for profit

Billy Long helped sell fake tax credits and took campaign cash from the perpetrators. Now Trump wants him running the IRS.

Harris, Donald Trump's nominee for IRS Commissioner, former Rep. Billy Long is neck-deep in scandals. Senate Democrats grilled him for taking $65,000 after leaving office to refer investors to a scheme pushing nonexistent tribal tax credits. The IRS itself has said these credits are fraudulent. That didn't stop Long from cashing in or from accepting more than $165,000 in donations from the very same promoters to retire old campaign debt after the scam was exposed. This is a calculated move by Trump to dismantle one of the only agencies holding billionaires accountable. Billy Long doesn't believe in tax enforcement. In fact, during his time in Congress, he co-sponsored bills to abolish the IRS entirely and replace all taxes with a 30% national sales tax. He wants us to believe that while he raked in money from fraudsters and their donations paid down his campaign debt, he had no idea what was happening. That's either a lie or the résumé of someone totally unfit to run the IRS. Tell the Senate: Vote NO on Billy Long and reject this corrupt IRS takeover. SIGN AND SEND We can't let Trump and his cronies turn the IRS into a protection racket for the ultra-wealthy. The free Direct File program is saving Americans millions of dollars. Long would kill it. Oversight on billionaires is finally happening. Long would stop it. Working families are being treated fairly again. Long would reverse that progress. The people who stand to benefit most from Long's confirmation are the very same ones who bankrolled his failed Senate campaign. This is textbook quid pro quo. If we let this stand, we are saying that public service is for sale, and that corruption pays. The Senate must send a clear message: public institutions are not playgrounds for political payback. Billy Long has proven he'll use public office to help private fraudsters and undermine the rule of law. America's tax system can't afford another Trump enabler in a position of power. We've come too far in rebuilding trust and functionality in the IRS to let a grifter in the driver's seat. Stand with us, and let the Senate know that Long must be rejected and tax fairness defended.
