We must take back public health from conspiracy theorists, and restore vaccine programs now! Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has publicly admitted that no one should take medical advice from him. On this point, he is absolutely correct.
Kennedy is not strengthening America's public health infrastructure -- he's tearing it apart. His health views are rooted in fringe misinformation, not in medicine or public health. He should never have been elevated to any position of national authority. Here are a few of his "accomplishments" as HHS Secretary:
He has discarded decades of progress in mRNA vaccination science, and instead he is pushing long-debunked claims that vaccines cause autism.
He has fired the CDC's top vaccine advisors and replaced them with conspiracy theorists.
He's canceled the HIV vaccine program, and slashed funding for Bird Flu vaccines -- all while outbreaks continue to spread.
Kennedy even compared businesses' COVID policies to Nazi atrocities -- unfavorably. In a particularly bizarre speech at the Lincoln Memorial, he actually said Hitler's Germany was easier to escape than vaccination mandates for certain jobs -- and highlighted Anne Frank hiding in an attic to make his very odd point. (Of course, Anne Frank did not succeed in escaping the Nazis, and tragically became one of the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust.)
This isn't science-based policymaking -- it's conspiracy-driven sabotage. At a moment when the next pandemic could strike at any time without warning, RFK Jr. is systematically gutting our defenses.
Send a message to RFK Jr. and Acting CDC Director Matthew Buzzelli: Reinstate vaccine programs for HIV, Bird Flu, and pandemic preparedness now.
And yet, despite his anti-science record, RFK Jr. is susceptible to public pressure. When he downplayed a deadly measles outbreak and pushed junk science instead of vaccines, a tidal wave of public outrage forced him to reverse course -- and ultimately direct the CDC to distribute MMR vaccines to clinics across multiple states.
We must do it again -- and this time, before lives are lost.
These aren't academic hypotheticals -- real lives are at risk. The HIV vaccine program was decades in the making and a vital source of hope for millions. Bird Flu is spreading through livestock as well as killing over 90 million birds, and has resulted in dozens of human infections and at least one death to date. Without new COVID vaccines, we could face another global health crisis with no defense. Scrapping these programs puts every one of us in greater danger.
We cannot let pandemic preparedness be dictated by the whims of conspiracy theorists. Science must lead. Public health policy must be grounded in evidence, not internet rabbit holes. And the American people must have access to the tools that save lives -- especially vaccines.
Tell RFK Jr. and the CDC: Put scientists, not ideologues, in charge. Restore critical vaccine programs before it's too late.
Thank you for standing up for science, for public health, and for a government that prepares for the next pandemic -- instead of pretending it won't happen.
