Dear Harris, You would think that Elon Musk, the richest person in the world who just spent $277 million to buy himself what's looking like a co-presidency with Donald Trump, would have better things to do with his time than attack me on social media. But no, here he is, just days after the election, once again lobbing personal insults at yours truly on Twitter/X: In previous posts, he's called me "Robert Reichtard" and a "miniature wanker." These infantile insults are intended to intimidate anyone who dares challenge Musk and his oligarchic wealth. Now, I'm not afraid of Elon Musk. What does scare me is the devastation that Trump and Musk are about to wreak on the most vulnerable segments of American society. That's why I refuse to remain silent, and I'm asking you to join me and the team at Inequality Media to fight back against attacks on American workers, and Trump and Musk. Will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media and help jump-start our efforts to resist the Trump-Musk agenda and push progressive policies that benefit the many, not the few? No one better illustrates the sinister consequences of great wealth turned into unaccountable power than Elon Musk. He has never been elected to anything, but he spent $277 million helping Trump win, and he's now behaving like Trump's co-president, calling himself Trump's "First Buddy." As co-chair of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has been tasked by Trump to slash $2 trillion from the federal budget — 30% of the entire federal budget — which would require massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans' health benefits, and virtually every other federal program that helps working people. His end goal: More massive tax breaks and government subsidies for himself and his companies. This is the logical endpoint of the avalanche of big money unleashed on American politics by Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United: an all-but-official merger of corporate power and the government, with the world's richest person at the helm. It's up to us to fight back. None of us can take on Musk or Trump alone. But together, I believe we can save democracy and constrain their worst abuses. Inequality Media will play a key role by using our massive social media following to educate the public and elevate issues that the corporate media routinely ignores. And as a grassroots-funded organization, we rely on your donations to make all our work possible. Will you stand with me and make a monthly donation to Inequality Media to help educate the public and resist Donald Trump and Elon Musk's agenda? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Thank you, Robert Reich Inequality Media |
