Hey Elon Musk: Hands off Social Security!

We will not let Elon Musk cut Social Security and Medicare to give himself even more tax breaks and government handouts.

Harris,

Elon Musk spent at least $277 million to help elect Donald Trump — and since Election Day, Musk's personal wealth has increased by $200 BILLION to an obscene $486 billion.1,2

That's billion, with a B.

And how is Elon Musk planning to use his new wealth and influence? To gut Social Security and Medicare.3

On Tuesday, at the very first meeting of the newly formed congressional "DOGE Caucus," created to help push forward the recommendations of the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Republicans openly admitted that "there will be some cuts" to Social Security.4

We've fought for years to expand, not cut, Social Security, and this could be our biggest fight yet.

We will not let Elon Musk cut Social Security. Will you make a donation to help support our work, including fighting back against Elon Musk's plan to slash Social Security?

Much of Elon Musk's wealth comes from government contracts, and as DOGE co-chair, he will be in position to direct huge amounts of money to his companies.

It's smash-and-grab corruption on an unfathomable scale, and that's why the stock value of his companies has skyrocketed since the election. Wall Street sees what's coming and wants to get a share.5

At the same time, Musk says DOGE will cut at least $2 trillion — or 30% — from the federal budget. And there's only one way to do that: gut Social Security and Medicare.6

Musk recently tipped his hand by retweeting a thread from a Republican senator laying out a blueprint for dismantling Social Security, calling it an "interesting thread."7 Then on Tuesday, Republican DOGE caucus member Rep. Greg Lopez confirmed that Medicare and Social Security "should be on the table."8

Musk may not even wait for Congress to begin slashing benefits. DOGE co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy told CNBC that they believe that "the executive branch has no obligation to send out a payment if it is wasteful," meaning Musk and Trump could unilaterally declare Social Security "wasteful" and stop sending out checks.9

Demand Progress has successfully helped defeat past attempts to cut Social Security by mobilizing tens of thousands of people to contact Congress. Now, with Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world, attacking Social Security, we need to do even more.

Will you donate $20 to help defend Social Security and push for other key reforms?

With gratitude,

The team at Demand Progress Action
