It's Kenton, founder of Cedar Key Progress.
Fifty years ago today on April 30, 1975, Saigon fell.
My grandparents and parents, part of the ethnic Chinese minority in Vietnam, were stuck in Saigon as the last American helicopters left.
In the aftermath, whether they could obtain an exit permit or not, millions fled any way they could.
It took over a decade for both sides of my family to make it to freedom in the United States.
Through their sacrifice and the ironclad law of the United States Constitution, I was born on our soil as a citizen, with democracy as my birthright.
I took an early interest in elections.
Harris, I started Cedar Key Progress to organize thousands of supporters like you to fight back against the greatest threat to our American democracy and values: Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans.
White nationalist Republicans attack family reunification, which allowed my parents to be united with their brothers and sisters, as "chain migration."
They denounce children of immigrants like me the "Great Replacement", and even want to end birthright citizenship.
They really wish I hadn't been born.
They're closing off refugee resettlement, detaining and hassling citizens for the crime of looking not white, and even deporting native-born US citizens without any process.
And they worship Donald Trump - a disgusting career criminal who wants to rule for life, a fascist who commits impeachable crimes and insults our Constitution with impunity.
Think back to how you became an American - whether you're a Native American, an immigrant, or you're descended from one.
In many parts of the world, it's not easy to be fully accepted if you aren't part of the nation's dominant ethnic group.
But the United States of America was not founded on an ethnicity or a religion, it was founded on ideas: that all are created equal, that we are governed by the consent of the people, for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
White nationalist MAGA Republicans don't agree.
They have a narrow vision of who Americans ought to be that excludes minorities - racial, gender, sexual, religious, or more - anyone that doesn't fit in their dreams.
They censor and condemn our diversity, instead of celebrating it.
Fifty years ago today, the country my parents were born in ceased to exist.
Now, I fight to ensure the America I was born in stays a free and fair democracy for centuries to come.
