Harris, I spoke to NPR for their story, "The next AOC? Young Democrats are aiming to topple incumbents inside their own party." Harris, we are building a movement across South Florida and the entire country. I am a 26-year-old substitute teacher and activist taking on a corrupt healthcare CEO in Florida's bluest congressional district. My experience with chronic homelessness and childhood poverty fuels my fight against an incumbent who spent nearly $6 million dollars and promised everyone in our district $1,000 monthly checks to buy this seat in Congress. Now the state of Florida is suing her company to get back a $5.8 million overpayment the same year her CEO's salary grew to $6 million. She is the subject of a congressional ethics investigation. Her campaign has $3,937 cash on hand and $4.3 million in debt. I am running this campaign and fighting for Medicare for All, affordable housing, and a living wage without taking a dime of corporate PAC money. Like Representative Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Sanders are saying across the country, we have to elect a new generation of working class candidates to take on the corrupt oligarchy that is destroying our government. It starts with the corrupt healthcare CEO in this district. 96 percent of incumbents win reelection, so if we are going to beat the odds, I am going to need your support, Harris. With a margin for error this razor-thin, we cannot afford to fall short of a single fundraising deadline. I hope I can count on you. With gratitude, Elijah |
