Harris,
In another outrageous abuse of power, Donald Trump has launched a full-scale assault on American history. His executive order laughably titled Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History is a blatant attempt to whitewash the realities of racism, injustice, and inequality from the Smithsonian's museums.
By threatening funding and demanding the removal of exhibits he deems "improper," Trump is trying to turn the Smithsonian into a propaganda machine. Trump's order specifically targets the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the American Art Museum, and the new American Women's History Museum because they dare to tell the truth about slavery, civil rights, systemic racism, and the struggle for equality.
He wants to silence Black voices, erase women's contributions, and deny the existence of marginalized communities all to prop up a sanitized, mythological version of our past.
We cannot let history be rewritten by tyrants. We must demand that the Smithsonian stand strong, resist political interference, and protect the integrity of its exhibits. American history is messy, complicated, and painful and it deserves to be told honestly.
Tell the Smithsonian's Board of Regents: Reject Trump's executive order. Stand for truth, stand for history, stand for America.
Trump's attack on the Smithsonian is an attack on truth itself, a dangerous step toward authoritarian control over what we are allowed to know, remember, and learn.
The independence of the Smithsonian is non-negotiable. These museums are not political playthings for any administration. They exist to educate Americans about the whole story of our nation, the triumphs and the atrocities.
The Smithsonian belongs to all Americans, not just those who fit Trump's whitewashed version of the past. Every child deserves to walk into a museum and see the full, honest, complicated story of our nation's journey. Every visitor deserves to learn the truth, not the lies Trump wants to sell.
History is not a political convenience. It's the foundation of democracy. And right now, it's under siege. Tell the Smithsonian's Board of Regents to reject Trump's executive order and defend the truth.
Together, let's defend the truth and reject censorship.
