We have had enough with the silence in the face of scandal

Elijah Manley is more than a substitute teacher and organizer — he's a relentless fighter who knows what it means to struggle and overcome. Harris, it's time for the Democratic Party to pick a side in the scandal that has robbed District 20 of our voice in Washington for YEARS. Here's how it unfolded: 2021-2022: My opponent was the CEO of a healthcare company that received $5.8 million in overpayments from the state of Florida during the pandemic. My opponent's salary as CEO grew to approximately $6 million, while she spent millions of dollars of her newfound wealth self-funding her campaign for Congress. Present day: My opponent is the subject of a House Ethics Committee investigation for campaign finance violations. Her former company is being sued by the state of Florida for the $5.8 million that they never paid back. Harris, these facts point to an ugly conclusion — that my opponent illegally used millions of Florida taxpayers' dollars to buy her seat in Congress, and then fudged the campaign finance reports to cover it up. While everyone is entitled to due process, this is an enormous breach of public trust for a member of Congress. And the Democratic Party cannot be silent. To be silent would be to tell our district — the bluest in the state of Florida, with large, diverse populations of Black Floridians and immigrants from the Caribbean and Latin America — that our voices and right to representation don't matter. That we aren't worth the trouble of an ugly intraparty spat exposing corruption. But Harris, we are worth it — and this isn't a close call: A corrupt healthcare CEO who took millions in taxpayer dollars to buy her seat in Congress, OR a teacher and activist who has been on the front lines fighting for us. It's time for a change. Now. I've never been afraid of standing up to entrenched power. I've been doing it since I was a child, broke, hungry, homeless at times, fighting for my right to survive. Now I'm fighting for District 20 and a better future for all of us.
