Harris, more than 200 days have passed since the war began in Gaza, and more than 34,000 people (mostly women and children) have been killed in the most densely populated territory on Earth.
There are 2.3 million people trapped in Gaza. They have nowhere to go. They have no homes. They have no schools. Hospitals have been reduced to rubble. They have been ordered to evacuate one area only to be bombed, starved, and forced to flee once again. They are on the brink of famine.
My heart is with suffering Gazans, the Israeli hostages, and all of the people who have been traumatized by this war. It is also with the students across the country who are sounding the alarm of our collective conscience. If we listen, we have an opportunity to change course and avoid compounding catastrophes. It is incumbent upon us to join their calls for peace and also stand up to antisemitism, Islamophobia, and white supremacy. After all, peace can only be achieved by recognizing the humanity and equality in all of us.
I stand with the peaceful protestors and call on authorities to respect their rights to peaceful assembly and free speech. Like mass student protests of the past, they are demanding a better world, and with that, I stand in solidarity.
Courage is contagious.
