Bunny, the Supreme Court announced today that it won't stop the TikTok ban from going into effect on Sunday. This decision gives the executive branch unprecedented power to silence speech it doesn't like. It's a huge blow to our First Amendment rights, limiting the free expression of the over 170 million users in the United States based on fear-mongering and speculation. The Supreme Court's refusal to block this ban places vague claims about 'national security' above our fundamental constitutional rights. Congress, President Biden, and President-elect Trump could all choose to keep TikTok online – by repealing the law, extending the deadline for TikTok to sell before the ban takes effect, or directing the Department of Justice not to enforce the ban. We're urging them to act now to repeal this dangerous legislation and defend our First Amendment rights. The ACLU is committed to stopping all attacks on our free speech rights – and we're not backing down now. Thank you for staying in this fight with us – we could not do this work without you.
