Bunny – Trump's race to unravel our basic civil liberties and dismantle our system of government is accelerating by the day. This is not the time to "wait and see" – the administration is already following through on its worst promises, and we can't just let it happen. By now, you already know two things: 1) The ACLU was prepared for this moment, and 2) We're pushing back with major litigation. Already, we've filed rapid-response lawsuits against Trump's worst executive orders, with several positive rulings already halting those. But here's something else you should know: Although this is a nationwide fight, our Commonwealth is at the heart of the struggle – and so is the ACLU of Massachusetts. For one thing, our attorneys are directly engaged in the lawsuits against Trump's executive orders attacking birthright citizenship and accurate gender markers on government IDs.
While the courts still matter, we know legal action alone isn't enough. That's why – with the help of supporters like you – we're pushing state lawmakers to build and shore up firewalls for freedom to ensure that our communities are protected against unlawful abuses of executive power. We're also empowering those communities directly: our organizers have run dozens of Know Your Rights events across the state to ensure that people can be as safe and informed as possible. Even Trump officials acknowledge that trainings like this are working! In the coming weeks and months, as you hear more about the fight to preserve our institutions and our communities, know that your local ACLU is right in the thick of things. And know that we simply can't do this work without you. In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
