Harris,
No doubt you remember "They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats, they're eating the pets of the people who live there."
Now the Trump administration is continuing its persecution of persecuted people, fleeing violence from nations that Trump has referred to in the most racist terms imaginable. (No doubt you also remember his comments about "s---hole countries.")
The program granting legal refuge to citizens of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, known as the "CHNV" parole program, exists because it is simply not safe for these people to return home. Now Trump plans to revoke legal status from over 500,000 legal immigrants, stripping them of work permits and subjecting them to deportation.
In addition, the Trump administration also plans to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 1 million Venezuelans and Haitians -- and is even considering revoking protections for more than 200,000 Ukrainians who fled Putin's brutal invasion.
Protect refugees fleeing violence and authoritarianism: Sign the petition to denounce the Trump administration's cruel and racist attacks on the victims of state-sponsored and political violence.
The CHNV and TPS programs exist to safeguard people from life-threatening conditions, ensuring that individuals and families escaping war, political persecution, and economic collapse are not forcibly returned to dangerous and unstable conditions.
-
In Cuba, political dissidents and activists face arbitrary imprisonment, repression, and torture under the authoritarian regime.
-
Haiti is plagued by gang violence, kidnappings, and political instability, with civilians caught in the crossfire. The U.N. estimates there are over 500,000 unregistered guns in Haiti, compared to 38,000 legal guns, and ATF reports that 85% of guns used in crimes in Haiti come from the United States.
-
Nicaragua's Ortega dictatorship jails political opponents, suppresses free speech, and violently cracks down on dissent.
-
Widespread human rights abuses in Venezuela, along with political repression and economic collapse, have forced millions to flee.
-
In Ukraine, Putin's unprovoked invasion has killed tens of thousands and turned cities into war zones, leaving many with no home to return to.
Trump's attacks on refugees are a humanitarian crisis. Ripping away protections from people who have already endured war, dictatorship, and economic ruin is cruel and inhumane. Many of these individuals have built lives in the U.S., are legally employed, and contribute to our communities.
Deporting them would not only separate families but also send them back into life-threatening situations. We must tell the Trump administration to stop the attacks on immigrants fleeing violence and authoritarianism.
No one should be forced to return to danger. Sign on now to demand that CHNV and TPS protections remain in place.
Thank you for standing up for refugees and asylum seekers.
