Harris,

I'm Roger Lau, and I'm honored to share that I'm the new Executive Director at the Democratic National Committee. I'm reaching out this morning to tell you a little bit about who I am, and share some ways you can help us build a winning DNC. This is a long email, but please stick with me.

Like you, I'm fed up with watching the Trump administration trying to dismantle our democracy — and everyone I talk to is asking, "What can I do to help at this moment?" Well, here are two things you can do right now to help the DNC fight back:

  • Share your feedback — and don't hold back. Once we collect this information, our small but mighty team will analyze the feedback and put together a report that I will share with the DNC's new Chair, Ken Martin, to help us make decisions about how to improve the DNC. This is a grassroots committee powered by grassroots supporters, and your input matters to us a great deal.

  • Donate to the DNC. If you're anything like me, I bet your inbox is full to the brim of emails from organizations asking for your support — and, trust me, I hate to ask you for more. But the DNC is powered by grassroots donations from supporters just like you who are pitching in $5, $10 at a time. In fact, the average donation to an email just like this one is $31.75. Every donation in the door will help us build a DNC you can be proud of — one that takes no election for granted, and one that's on the front lines of fighting back against the Trump administration.

Now, to share a little bit about me:

I'm the son of working-class immigrants who came to this country in search of a better life. They worked two jobs each — waiting tables, selling souvenirs and sewing clothes to support me and my siblings.

I haven't lived the easiest life or taken the most "traditional" path like others in politics, but after a few stumbles as a young adult, I got up, dusted myself off, and worked hard to get my GED.

In college, I responded to a classified ad about an internship in a U.S. Senator's office. I figured nothing would come of it, but I interviewed anyway and was told to start the following Monday. And that internship in John Kerry's office is where my love for politics began.

Since then, I've held a number of roles in politics and campaigns. I've managed six campaigns, from Congressional races all the way to Elizabeth Warren's 2020 presidential campaign. In all of my previous roles, I've seen over and over again that an individual, a community, or a movement of people can collectively enact change for the better. That's what the Democratic Party embodies: The belief in a country where stories like mine are not just possible but within reach for millions of people.

What we do next is important. I've spent more than two decades in this line of work. I've faced tough losses before and I've seen Democrats come back even stronger. I've seen us come together to protect people's health care, to bring down costs for families like mine, and to fight back against extremists who want to roll back our freedoms. We have to fight back again now.

That's exactly what we're doing at the DNC. We're re-investing and doubling down on efforts like organizing 365 days a year in red, blue, and purple states; ensuring state parties have the support they need to propel Democratic candidates to victory; fighting Trump at every turn, and more. And this is the time we need you the most.

Your feedback and support at this moment is extremely critical. So, if you can, please take a second to fill out our feedback form (and don't hold back!) and, if you can afford to, add a donation by clicking here.

I'm not backing down, and I hope you aren't planning to, either.

Thank you for everything,

-roger
