Bunny – Yesterday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu appeared before a congressional committee to answer questions about the city's longstanding and lawful policy of devoting local resources to local needs, instead of enforcing federal immigration laws. Mayor Wu faced hostile and politically motivated questions from grandstanding members of Congress, but she made it clear that Boston won't be bullied. We know, after all, that this hearing is simply part of an intimidation campaign to try to force cities and states to carry out Trump's mass deportation agenda. Our city has every right to focus on serving its residents, instead of helping ICE detain and deport them. We know that the Trust Act keeps communities safe by building trust between local police and residents and allowing local officials to prioritize local needs. And we know the law is on our side: The U.S. Constitution and the courts have made clear that the federal government can't force states or cities to carry out immigration enforcement. At a time when political courage is in short supply, we hope you'll join us in showing your support for the freedom and safety of our immigrant neighbors – and all Bostonians. In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
