Dear Harris,
Yesterday, the FBI arrested a judge in Wisconsin in a major escalation of the Trump administration's assault on the rule of law.
Friends, I cannot overstate how dangerous — and terrifying — this is.
This nation was founded on checks and balances. The separation of powers is the fundamental principle of the U.S. Constitution.
If judges have to live in fear of arrest for defying the Trump regime, then democracy is over.
We're sounding the alarm across all our platforms to help stop Trump's rapidly accelerating authoritarian takeover, and it's working. Trump's approval ratings are falling fast, and more and more people are turning out to protests, rallies, and town hall meetings.
Now we must ramp up the pressure. Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump's assault on our democracy?
Details are still emerging, but according to reports, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested on Friday, after she prevented Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from arresting a man in her courtroom without a judicial warrant.
Legal experts warn that arresting undocumented immigrants at courthouses undermines the judicial process and public safety because it scares victims, survivors, and witnesses from using court services. Indeed, before Trump took office, ICE agents were specifically prohibited from entering courthouses to make arrests.
But let's be clear: This is not about illegal immigration. This is about intimidating judges into complying with the Trump regime, with no regard for due process or the law.
I don't believe that Americans want to live in a country where judges are threatened with jail time for defying the president.
To fight back, we're pushing out a wave of posts, explainers, and viral videos to educate the public and mobilize the grassroots backlash we need to stop Trump's rapid descent into dictatorship — and as a grassroots-funded organization, we rely on your donations to power this vital work.
That's why I'm asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump's assault on our democracy?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
