Bunny – We often get asked: What can people in Massachusetts do to protect themselves at a time of rising extremism, abuse of federal power, and unchecked corporate collusion? A better question is: What can our state and local leaders do to protect us? The answer: a lot. One of the best things our state leaders can do right now is pass the Location Shield Act. This bill would strengthen digital privacy, ensuring that sensitive personal information can't be sold to bad actors who might use it to track, harass, or even prosecute us.
We're on Beacon Hill today to testify in support of comprehensive consumer and digital privacy legislation, including the Location Shield Act. This bill is crucial because data brokers are currently selling our sensitive location data to anyone who wants it. This information shows where we live, work, protest, seek healthcare services, and countless intimate details of our private and professional lives. At a time when bad actors are emboldened to target and harass the most vulnerable among us, they shouldn't have the option of simply buying information about our whereabouts. This predatory industry should have no place in Massachusetts. As lawmakers hear the ACLU and our allies testify in support of this bill, they also need to hear your voice! Will you help us pass the Location Shield Act? In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
