Harris,
When billionaires like Elon Musk get appointed to government advisory roles, they don't just bring their influence, they bring their self-interest. Right now, Special Government Employees (SGEs) can own massive stakes in companies and still cash in on government contracts and grants.
That means they can help shape policy during the day and watch taxpayer money flow into their pockets by night. It's corruption in plain sight.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen's bill, S.1365, is a direct shot at this grift. It would block any company that is 5% or more owned by an SGE from getting federal funds. SpaceX, Tesla, and other Musk-owned ventures would be barred from receiving government handouts until he fully divests. It's common-sense ethics reform, and it's already the standard for members of Congress.
This kind of transparency and accountability has been needed for decades. We're not asking for the moon here, just a government that doesn't let ultra-wealthy insiders manipulate our system to enrich themselves.
This bill is a clean, enforceable step toward restoring the integrity of public service. We need to demand that the Senate act now. Tell your senators to back S.1365 and end corrupt insider contracts.
This bill uses the SEC's own beneficial ownership rules, the ones that expose shell companies and money-laundering schemes, to sniff out who owns what. That means no more hiding behind front companies or backroom deals. If you own a piece of the pie and you're also sitting in a government role, the federal dollars stop until the conflict ends. That's how it should be.
Too often, D.C. hands power to the already powerful. There are dozens of billionaires and corporate leaders who cycle through government advisory roles only to watch their own companies rake in millions in taxpayer-funded contracts. These people don't need another subsidy. They need to be held to the same standards as the rest of us.
Senator Shaheen's bill isn't anti-business. It's pro-integrity. Public service is supposed to be about sacrifice, not a side hustle for the ultra-wealthy. If you want to serve your country, you shouldn't be cashing federal checks through your private companies at the same time.
We need every voice calling for a Senate vote. The lobbyists will try to kill this. The billionaires will try to bury it. But we can expose it, and we can win.
Help pass Senator Shaheen's bill prohibiting the companies of special government employees, like Elon Musk, from receiving federal contracts or grant payments now!
Let's put an end to the self-dealing and public theft.
