I have breaking news for you, Harris: |
Our hard work paid off and the Arizona Senate just answered my call to repeal the 1864 Civil War-era abortion ban. Soon, it will arrive on my desk. I’m going to sign it into law and we are going to kill this awful law once and for all. |
But this fight is far from over. It took putting immense pressure on extreme Republican lawmakers to gavel in, and they’re already trying to deflect blame for this ever happening in the first place. |
Harris, there’s no telling what will happen next and this will only halt Republicans’ efforts for so long, but we know one thing is for certain: we must continue sticking together if we want to win this fight. Please, Harris, will you chip in $7 now to the DGA to help elect Democratic governors like myself who will fight to preserve reproductive rights across the country? |

After the state legislature failed to repeal the 1864 abortion ban numerous times, extreme Republican lawmakers cheered. My former opponent, Kari Lake, called the barbaric ban a “great law” in 2022. Donald Trump even celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade. But now, as they start to realize how politically inconvenient opposing reproductive freedom is, they’re trying to flip the script. |
Since day one, I’ve said the only people who should be making decisions about your body are you, your loved ones, and your doctor. Not the government or politicians. |
As Governor, I’ve expanded contraception access, vetoed anti-abortion bills from the state legislature, and signed executive orders to protect women and doctors from prosecution. I have been calling on the legislature to repeal this 1864 ban since the Dobbs decision – and today, we officially did it. |
But after the Civil War-era ban is repealed, a different GOP-backed abortion ban will be in effect that still has no exceptions for rape or incest. That’s why I’m going to continue working to defeat anti-abortion extremists and rally support for the abortion ballot initiative so that voters can enshrine the right to an abortion in Arizona this November. |
I won’t stop fighting until reproductive freedom is secured for all Arizonans. |
And I’m not standing alone. Arizona is just one state where Republicans have passed restrictive bans and even threatened contraception and IVF. Democratic governors nationwide have protected reproductive rights in their states by signing legislation to codify abortion rights into state law, stockpiling abortion medication in the midst of Republican threats, and taking executive action to protect reproductive health care and veto dangerous abortion bans. |
But this November, there are extremists on the ballot who are pushing for bans like this one. This is a critical moment, Harris, and we cannot let up on fighting for our fundamental rights. Restoring reproductive rights rests on our shoulders, so please, will you rush a donation of $7 or whatever you can to help elect Democratic governors nationwide? |
