Harris, this country is in a reproductive rights crisis. And the man responsible? Donald Trump.
On day one (!!) of his administration, Trump removed the government website reproductiverights.gov — a resource that provided crucial information about reproductive health care, including abortion care. He reinstated the global gag rule and pardoned anti-choice extremists who blocked access to health care clinics.
Trump's record as the president who overturned Roe v. Wade and his immediate action to take down this resource make clear that he will be using his position to chip away further at our reproductive freedom.
But, here's the good news, Harris:
Democratic pro-choice women have proved time and time again that they are the best weapon in the fight for reproductive freedom, and EMILYs List women up and down the ballot have already made significant moves to protect reproductive rights since Roe was overturned.
Before we tell you more about their incredible work, will you donate now to support the Democratic pro-choice women who are fighting back?
Here are just a few of the EMILYs List women putting in the work to defend and restore the fundamental rights that Donald Trump and his extremist allies want to take away:
- New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued two executive orders during the months following the overturn of Roe. These orders protect patients from extradition and out-of-state investigations and allocated $10 million toward a reproductive health clinic.
- Arizona state Rep. Stephanie Stahl Hamilton and state Sen. Anna Hernandez successfully led efforts to repeal the state's Civil-War era abortion ban by introducing legislation in their respective chambers. Gov. Katie Hobbs then signed this legislation into law.
- St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed legislation directing $1 million in federal funds to help people cover the logistical cost of accessing abortion after the overturn of Roe.
- Justice Janet Protasiewicz was elected to Wisconsin's state Supreme Court in 2023 with the help of EMILYs List. This election shifted the court to a pro-choice majority and will help safeguard millions of Wisconsinites' access to abortion as the Court prepares to make a decision on the state's abortion ban.
- Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings launched a legal helpline to connect residents with free, confidential legal advice in response to the overturn of Roe.
Democratic pro-choice women will continue to be the leaders we need to protect our fundamental freedoms.
