Dear Harris — I'm re-sending this important email to make sure you didn't miss it — Robert Reich
Dear Harris,
There's no sugarcoating it.
The pardons and commutations that Donald Trump gave to the January 6 insurrectionists are a direct assault on the rule of law and democracy.
Among the nearly 1,600 people Trump set free were rioters who brutally assaulted police officers with tasers, pepper spray, knives, axes, guns, and fire extinguishers, as well as the leaders of the paramilitary organizations who helped lead the attack.
Trump's message with these pardons is that if you commit political violence on his behalf, you will be protected. He wants his political opponents to fear for their physical safety, and it's working.
Harris, I've studied fascist movements. I've seen how aspiring authoritarians dismantle democracy one step at a time. This is what fascism looks like, and it's up to us to resist.
There's no one simple action we can take to stop Trump from pushing America toward authoritarianism, but one key first step is to tell the truth. January 6 was not a "day of love," and the people who attacked our democracy are not "patriots." We cannot sit by as Trump attempts to rewrite history.
I co-founded Inequality Media in order to combat right-wing lies and get the truth out about issues the corporate media ignores. That work has never been more necessary or important than it is right now.
So I'm asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public and fight back against Donald Trump's authoritarian agenda?
Since being released by Trump, insurrection ringleader and Oathkeepers founder Stuart Rhodes has been spotted ominously lurking around the U.S. Capitol.
Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who got the longest sentence of anyone convicted of crimes related to January 6, immediately went on the Alex Jones radio show to pledge retribution against "the people who did this."
At the same time, Trump stripped the government-funded security detail of several current and former government officials who have been subjected to death threats, including Dr. Anthony Fauci.
It's impossible to understate how dangerous this is, and how threatening it is to democracy.
Some in the mainstream media are normalizing these pardons by comparing them to Joe Biden's preemptive pardons of Liz Cheney and Biden family members who had been targeted for retribution by Trump and his allies.
Hogwash.
With your help, Inequality Media is using our huge following across social media to get out the truth, debunk the MAGA lies, and hold Trump accountable for his assault on democracy.
So if you're with me and can afford it, please make a monthly donation to help educate the public and fight back against Donald Trump's authoritarian agenda.
Thank you,
Robert Reich
