Bunny – While the Trump administration wreaks havoc and undermines basic functions of the federal government, we need to remember that ordinary people – immigrants, working families, people of color, and LGBTQ people – will bear the brunt of this harm. In the face of federal chaos and dysfunction, lawmakers in Massachusetts must double down on their commitments to racial and economic justice, always striving for a fairer, more affordable, and more just society for workers and families. Tell state lawmakers: Pass the Road to Opportunity and Access to Counsel Acts to advance economic and racial justice in the Commonwealth! Take Action The ACLU of Massachusetts supports two key bills to protect working people and their families: The Road to Opportunity Act (HD2487/SD1424) would end the practice of suspending driver's licenses solely for outstanding fines and fees unrelated to road safety. This would alleviate economic burdens on tens of thousands of people who struggle to get by because they can't legally drive. The Access to Counsel & Housing Stability Act (HD3912/SD1771) would guarantee legal representation for low-income tenants during eviction proceedings. This is especially important at a time when rents and housing costs are through the roof, and most people can't afford to hire an attorney to fight eviction. Trump and his cronies prefer a world in which money can buy everything, and poverty is a punishable offense. But systemic equality and economic justice have always been at the core of the ACLU's mission, and we will fight for due process and equal protection – no matter your net worth.
