The New York Times has uncovered audio of Brad Schimel, the conservative candidate for Wisconsin's Supreme Court, openly prejudging the state's crucial abortion case. He declared that there is no constitutional right to abortion — and even defended the state's 1849 law banning abortion, saying he doesn't believe it's flawed.
The majority of Wisconsinites disagree with Schimel. So why should he get to make decisions that strip them of their rights? Electing Judge Crawford could be our first major pro-choice victory of the year.
Schimel's record speaks for itself: he is a anti-choice politician, not a fair and impartial judge. As attorney general, he didn't just defend abortion restrictions — he helped design the strategy to dismantle reproductive rights nationwide. He played a leading role in the effort that successfully overturned Roe v. Wade and has spent his career making it harder for people to access the care they need.
Now, he wants a seat on Wisconsin's highest court to keep pushing his extreme agenda. If he wins, he won't stop at abortion — he'll be a threat to our fundamental freedoms across the board.
Wisconsinites deserve a judge who will uphold the law fairly, not one who twists it to fit his own ideology. Susan Crawford is that judge, and we're proud to stand with her.
