We've already seen Trump lift the ban on ICE raids in sensitive places – schools, courthouses, places of worship – and threaten to detain tens of thousands of immigrants in Guantanamo Bay. Using the military for deportations is another way he is ratcheting up his cruel, anti-immigrant agenda across the country.
Not only is this morally wrong, it is deeply unpopular. A recent Axios-Ipsos poll revealed that 62 percent of people across ALL parties oppose using money allocated to the U.S. military to pay for deportation efforts.
Despite this, the Trump administration has already begun to use aircraft and intelligence systems and deploy troops to strengthen a deportation machine capable of devastating millions of lives.
We must come together as a movement to stand up for justice and end this abuse of government resources. Together, we can push Congress – Democrats and Republicans alike – to block taxpayer funds allocated for military operations from being used to target undocumented immigrants.
That's why Justice Democrats is joining Win Without War and progressive organizations from across the country to tell Congress tax dollars allocated to the U.S. military must not power Trump's deportation machine.
