Harris, President Trump has essentially shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (the CFPB,) an agency that exists to try and make our economy more fair.
How could anybody be against that?
The CFPB works. Since 2011, it's returned nearly $20 billion to consumers through real checks, canceled debt, and monetary relief. The CFPB goes after businesses who are cheating or scamming consumers, which doesn't just benefit consumers, but also helps the many businesses who do play by the rules.
Look, this one's personal for me. I got my start in public service trying to make sure that everybody has a fair shot in our economy. The CFPB is an important part of that mission.
The reason President Trump is taking executive aim at the CFPB, rather than proposing Congress eliminate it, is because he knows there's no chance any elected official, Democrat or Republican, would ever vote to destroy an agency that benefits every single American consumer.
More soon,
Katie
PS: I filmed a video discussing Trump's attacks on the CFPB, you can watch the whole thing here.
We need Democrats in Congress who will stand up to Trump.
Please chip in $5 to Truth to Power today to help us support and elect those candidates.
