Harris, USPS's electric vehicle (EV) contracts -- already signed, vehicles already in production -- are a cornerstone of the Inflation Reduction Act's investments in a sustainable future. Not only are they good for the environment, but they create new jobs and careers in research and development, sales, manufacturing, and maintenance. They're a win-win-win-win. But, forever looking backward for ways to keep the fossil fuel industry pumping poisonous gunk into the atmosphere, Trump's transition team is actively working to scrap the USPS's green fleet and claw back the funding. Canceling these contracts would set us back decades -- locking in decades of gas-guzzling pollution, threatening jobs, and derailing progress on climate change. But this is about more than cleaner air: It's also about safer workplaces, modernizing America's delivery fleet, and driving forward clean energy innovation. Send a message to Postmaster General DeJoy and the USPS Board of Governors: Don't cave to Trump! Protect USPS green fleet investments and keep America on track in the fight against climate change. We need to help the GOP see the USPS's shift to electrifying 62% of its vehicles by 2028 as a still broader win, with benefits not just for the climate, but for American workers, families, and communities: -
Working Conditions: The new vehicles, for the first time, will have air conditioning, heating, and safety features, saving postal workers' lives and livelihoods. -
Job Growth: Already creating tens of thousands of jobs at Ford and Oshkosh, clean technology vehicles will among be the most reliably growing sources of new jobs in the 21st century, filling ever-expanding needs. -
Healthier Workers: Mail carriers are the most vulnerable to toxic pollution from idling vehicles, harming air quality in neighborhoods and creating an unsafe work environment for drivers. -
Healthier Communities: Black and brown communities bear the brunt of heavy truck emissions, and will see big relief from cleaner vehicles. -
Healthier Planet: Reducing CO2 emissions will help counteract the deadly effects of climate change, with its record breaking temperatures and increased frequency of wildfires, floods, and hurricanes. As an independent federal agency, the USPS has the authority to make its own operational decisions, including these critical contracts. Allowing political interference to undermine these efforts sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations. Tell DeJoy and the USPS Board of Governors: Don't let Trump set the USPS green fleet agenda! Protect USPS's investments in its green fleet to promote healthier workers and communities while reducing the risks of climate catastrophes. The long-term dangers of a regressive shift from electric back to fossil fuel vehicles is not worth whatever minor savings it might bring in the near term. As climate change worsens and its costs continue to escalate, thank you for taking action today. Robert Reich Inequality Media Civic Action |
