President Jimmy Carter signed the law creating the Department of Education - and now, Republicans want to abolish it.
Sign the petition: Honor Carter's legacy and DEFEND the Department of Education!
In 1979, President Jimmy Carter elevated our schools and universities to Cabinet-level importance, creating the Department of Education.
As he signed the Department of Education Organization Act, Carter reflected on his service as chair of the Sumter County School Board, calling education "the biggest single national investment in the United States."
Now, the Department of Education funds early childhood education, special education, Pell Grants, and more.
As MAGA Republicans try to privatize our public schools, they're continuing their crusade to completely abolish the Department of Education, harming our nation's future.
Today, as we honor President Carter, we are committed to defending his legacy of making America's public schools a top priority.
And, we're renewing our commitment to elect school board members across the nation who will defend against vouchers, book bans, and right-wing censorship.
Sign the petition: Honor Carter's legacy and DEFEND the Department of Education from Republican attacks.
