Stop Trump's Medicare privatization scam

Dr. Oz wants to put private insurance companies in charge of Medicare so they can deny care and delay services to the sick and elderly.

Harris,

Donald Trump has nominated TV doctor Mehmet Oz to run the agency in charge of Medicare and Medicaid.

If he's confirmed by the U.S. Senate, it will be a complete disaster.

Dr. Oz wants to put private insurance companies in charge of Medicare so they can deny care and delay services to the sick and elderly.1 Their profits will go up and everyday Americans will get sicker.

Unfortunately, the corporate media is largely giving Dr. Oz a free pass, so it's up to us to sound the alarm.

Will you make a donation to help Demand Progress Action stop the nomination of Dr. Oz to run Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and push for other key reforms?

As a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2022, Oz advocated for privatizing Medicare through what he called a "Medicare Advantage for All" program.2 Medicare Advantage is the private insurance option under Medicare that has become notorious for fraud, abuse, and denials of needed care for the sick and elderly.3

The whole point of Medicare and Medicaid is to provide a safety net to those who the private insurance industry has failed. Now Oz wants to put those companies in charge of health care for the most sick and vulnerable in society.

Furthermore, he has personally invested large sums of money in the very health insurance and pharmaceutical companies that would stand to benefit from Medicare privatization, including CVS and UnitedHealth.4

Dr. Oz has also made millions promoting countless quack medical theories and dietary supplements. One independent study found that half of the health recommendations he made on his TV show weren't supported by scientific evidence.5

The U.S. Senate has the power to stop Dr. Oz, and we've already mobilized tens of thousands of people to block his confirmation. But the Senate will vote soon after Trump is sworn in, so we need to turn up the heat now.

Will you make a donation to Demand Progress Action and support our work, including urging the U.S. Senate to reject the nomination of Dr. Oz?

With gratitude,

The team at Demand Progress Action
