Marjorie Taylor Greene's despicable attack on PBS

Marjorie Taylor Greene is joining the assault on PBS with a political hit job of a hearing.

Harris,

Donald Trump and Elon Musk have launched an all-out attack aimed at defunding PBS.

Now Marjorie Taylor Greene is joining the assault by forcing the chief executive of PBS to testify this morning at a congressional hearing organized to smear public broadcasting as "anti-American."1

This is all part of a coordinated hit job on public broadcasting and the freedom of the press, and we need to stand with PBS to fight back.

We've already mobilized tens of thousands of people to contact Congress and defend PBS, but with Trump and his minions ramping up their attacks, we need to do even more.

Republicans have wanted to defund PBS for decades, going back to the Nixon administration.2 But we've never seen attacks on public broadcasting on the scale that we're seeing right now.

The Project 2025 agenda called for defunding public broadcasting, and Elon Musk listed the defunding of PBS among the first priorities for his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).3

Then Trump's newly appointed Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair, Brendan Carr, announced an investigation falsely accusing PBS of running illegal paid advertisements.4

Now Marjorie Taylor Greene is escalating the attack by dragging the head of PBS before her subcommittee for a ridiculous hearing titled "Anti-American Airwaves."

Rep. Greene has accused PBS, the home of Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and PBS NewsHour, of "systematically biased content" and "blatantly ideological and partisan coverage."5

The good news is that the American people overwhelmingly oppose the defunding of public broadcasting. In fact, a recent poll showed that even 65% of Trump voters think PBS is either underfunded or adequately funded.6

But the head of PBS, Paula Kerger, is warning that the threat to public broadcasting is existential. "Everything is at stake," she said. "The future of a number of our stations across the country will be in jeopardy if this funding is not continued."7

Demand Progress is mobilizing grassroots support to stop the defunding of PBS. Will you donate $20 to support our work, including our efforts to save PBS?
