Bunny – As the Trump administration strips civil liberties safeguards, rolls back regulations, and fills federal agencies with loyalists, it's clear that the sale of location data represents an even greater threat to our digital privacy and personal safety than ever before. Right now, data brokers are selling our most sensitive personal information to anyone with a credit card, including government agencies. Bad actors can easily weaponize location data to target any person or group labelled an enemy by this administration.
Thankfully, we have a bill for that. The Location Shield Act (HD2965/SD501) would ban the sale of cellphone location data in Massachusetts, stopping one of the most insidious methods of invasive digital surveillance threatening Bay Staters today. The sale of location data threatens everyone – especially victims of domestic violence and stalking, abortion patients and providers, LGBTQ people, elected officials, and political dissidents. No wonder 92 percent of Massachusetts voters – left, right, and center – want it banned. Our state leaders need to act fast in the face of this major threat. Will you urge your lawmakers to pass the Location Shield Act? In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
