Bunny – we're suing the Trump administration over its unprecedented and unlawful use of the Alien Enemies Act to fuel mass deportations. If you're with us and ready to join the fight, please, make a donation now. Here's what you need to know: Recently, the Trump administration sent nearly 250 Venezuelan immigrants to a maximum security prison in El Salvador without hearings or other due process. The government claims that it is authorized to do so under the Alien Enemies Act – a controversial 18th-century law addressing presidential authority in wartime that was last used to justify the arrest and internment of 31,000 Japanese, German, and Italian nationals during World War II. This claim is breathtaking and puts people at extraordinary risk of arrest, detention, and deportation without any chance to tell their side of the story, based only on an immigration agent's say-so, and without any oversight from a judge. When this unlawful plan was set in motion last Saturday, the ACLU immediately sued and secured a judicial order to halt the deportations. But public reports indicate the administration allowed flights to continue to El Salvador after the order was issued. The government's behavior obviously raises serious questions and concerns, and the court is looking into what happened. Bunny, the ACLU will continue to challenge the Trump administration's invocation of this act and these unprecedented attacks on civil rights. But we rely on people like you to power these critical fights. Thank you,
