Harris, CBS 12 News—West Palm Beach just updated their investigation of my opponent after she refused their entry at her recent Pompano Beach town hall: My opponent is terrified of an active state lawsuit to recover $5.8 million taxpayer dollars paid to her former company while she was CEO. She is simultaneously the subject of a congressional campaign finance investigation by the House Ethics Committee. The state of Florida's lawsuit reads her company "accepted this payment that was 100 times greater than it knew it should have received." Rather than returning the overpaid amounts to the state, my opponent's salary increased that year by approximately $6 million. She then spent $4 million of her newfound personal wealth to run for Congress. Plain and simple. I don't have millions of dollars. I don't have a family-owned company with state government contracts to draw a CEO's salary. I'm a teacher and organizer that has been in this fight since I was a teenager. If we are going to stop oligarchy and defeat the rampant political corruption destroying this country, then we are going to need a Democratic Party that fights harder for working people. A Democratic Party of working people. If you've saved payment info with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately.
What District 20 deserves is what the late Rep. Barbara Jordan once said it is that the people want — an America as good as its promise. With your support, that is what we are going to fight for each day forward. And we will win. With gratitude, Elijah |
