Dear Harris,
Two months into Donald Trump's disaster of a presidency, people keep asking me: "Have we hit rock bottom yet? It can't actually get worse, can it?"
My answer, sadly, is no. We haven't hit rock bottom. In fact, Trump's attacks on democracy and the rule of law appear to be only escalating.
Federal agents are snatching up students who are legally in the U.S. for exercising their free speech. Court orders are being defied with impunity. Entire government agencies authorized by Congress have been illegally gutted.
This is the behavior of a lawless tyrant, not a president of the United States.
But friends, the American people do not want to be ruled by an authoritarian dictator, and Inequality Media Civic Action is helping to fuel the emerging pro-democracy backlash by using our massive following across social media to explain what Trump is doing and why it's so dangerous. It's working, but we need to ramp it up before it's too late.
Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public and halt Trump's authoritarian assault on our democracy?
The core principle of the U.S. Constitution is the separation of powers. We have three coequal branches of government, none more powerful than the others.
Congress makes the law. The courts interpret the law. The executive branch enforces the law. If the president refuses to obey judicial rulings or court orders, then the entire delicate balance of power comes undone.
This is the slippery slope to dictatorship that the founders warned could be the undoing of the republic.
And make no mistake: If Trump can disappear people legally in the U.S. on student visas or dozens of Venezuelan migrants without due process, then he can do it to anyone.
I don't believe that Americans want this. They did not vote to become a dictatorship. But with MAGA-aligned billionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg controlling so much of what people see and hear about Trump, too many Americans simply aren't getting the facts about what's really happening.
That's where Inequality Media Civic Action comes in. We're sounding the alarm to our millions of followers across social media, educating as many as possible about what's at stake, and it's working.
Our shares, views, and engagement have skyrocketed since Trump was sworn in, allowing us to reach millions of people beyond our core audience and break through to the broad public. On YouTube alone, the "watch time" of our videos is up a remarkable 10x from one year ago.
But facing Trump's rapid descent into dictatorship, we need to do even more to warn the American people and mobilize them to take action before it's too late to stop him.
That's why I'm asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public and stop Trump's assault on our democracy?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
