Bunny – Right now, President Trump is abusing power at an unprecedented rate, wielding his deportation machine as a weapon against families who have done nothing more than come to the U.S. seeking a better life. In doing so, Trump has already moved with unspeakable cruelty and threatened the rule of law itself. Massachusetts should take a stand against this lawlessness, and we certainly should not be doing ICE's work for them.
Right now, some agencies contribute space and state resources to ICE, which serve as force multipliers for deportations. And with ICE going around the country coercing local governments into aiding their deportation agenda, we could soon see more Massachusetts cities, towns, and counties jumping on the anti-immigrant bandwagon. Here's the thing: more local detention space means more ICE arrests of workers, parents, and neighbors. This increases fear and instability in our communities, keeping people away from schools, workplaces, places of worship, and more. And local detention facilities speed deportation, serving as ICE transfer stations before immigrants are moved swiftly across and out of the country. Trump and his cronies have threatened Massachusetts and its leaders, but we're not so easily intimidated. We won't help him dismantle our fundamental rights and terrorize our neighbors. Tell your state lawmakers to pass the Dignity Not Deportations Act! In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
