I sued Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in court and won, Harris. In 2021, three Democratic members of the Florida Legislature had resigned to run for this seat in a special congressional election according to Florida law. But instead of calling special elections to fill those seats, Ron DeSantis set the state record for the longest delay calling their elections in Florida history. Harris, I tried everything to stop Ron DeSantis from excluding three Democrats representing legislative districts in FL-20 during the once-in-a-decade redistricting process. I called the governor's office. I wrote him letters. I spoke to the Sun Sentinel, Tallahassee Democrat, and anyone else who would listen. After more delay, we decided to sue DeSantis in state court to get a judge's order forcing him to follow the law. Once we did, DeSantis backed down. DeSantis called those special elections, and later bullied his lapdogs in the Legislature into changing that very same resign-to-run law to run for president himself. I'm still fighting Ron DeSantis, Harris, but I know that the real change we need has to come from Washington, not Tallahassee.
