Harris,
The right to peaceably assemble is a fundamental pillar of American democracy, enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution. But Trump and his allies are waging war on this basic freedom, criminalizing protest and branding peaceful activists as "domestic terrorists."
Even as Elon Musk is systematically dismantling key federal agencies, Americans are exercising their constitutional right to dissent. The "Tesla Takedown" movement is growing, as hundreds of protesters gather outside Tesla showrooms nationwide to oppose Musk's attacks on consumer protections, student loans, labor laws, foreign aid, and even Social Security. But instead of acknowledging this as a legitimate political expression, Trump is using a handful of isolated incidents of vandalism as a pretext to threaten and silence all protesters.
Trump declared that demonstrators are "going to go through hell," deliberately conflating peaceful protesters with the few responsible for property damage. This dangerous rhetoric is more than just words -- it's a calculated strategy to justify arrests, criminal prosecutions, and even the use of military force to suppress dissent. Under this framework, Trump could exploit terrorism laws to imprison activists, deploy the National Guard against them, or even send detainees to offshore sites like Guantanamo Bay.
Protesting Tesla is not domestic terrorism! Add your name now to denounce Trump's attacks on nonviolent dissent and defend the First Amendment.
This is part of a broader authoritarian playbook. When confronted about the Tesla protests, Trump escalated his attacks by comparing them to last year's largely peaceful college demonstrations -- treating all forms of protest against his agenda as threats to be crushed. Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields, reinforced this extreme position, calling nonviolent protesters "radical Leftist activists" engaging in "heinous acts of domestic terror."
History tells a different story. Dissent has always been central to American democracy. The right to protest is not just protected by the Constitution; it has driven our nation's progress. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat. Suffragists marched despite arrests. Labor activists fought for safe working conditions. The Boston Tea Party itself was an act of protest. These movements were not terrorism; they were patriotic acts that helped bring about the civil liberties we are thankful for today.
Trump wants to criminalize opposition. But in our United States democracy, protesting injustice is not a crime -- it's a duty.
Sign on now to defend the First Amendment and denounce Trump's dangerous assault on the right to peaceably assemble.
Thank you for standing up for your rights!
