Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has been bringing a butter knife to a gunfight.
In the battle over whether to give Trump and Musk carte blanche to keep permanently shutting down the government agency by agency, according to their own oligarchic whims, or to show some guts and stand up as the opposition party, Schumer promptly caved.
Instead of leading the party into unified action that would rightly express the growing anger of an increasingly huge section of the American public, Schumer split off ten Democratic senators to give Trump everything he wants.
Schumer says, incredibly, that a government shutdown would have allowed Trump to dismantle our democracy. What does he think Musk and Trump have been doing the last two months! For Schumer to push through this Continuing Resolution to empower Trump further instead of stopping it with a filibuster shows he lacks the will to fight the fight we must have right now.
Every month that Trump acts without any real opposition is a month we slide further into authoritarian rule.
Tell Senate Democrats: Schumer must step down immediately and allow someone else to lead the opposition to Trump. If he won't step down now, the caucus must remove him.
Schumer must be replaced by a Democrat who represents the white hot and overwhelming belief of members of the Democratic Party nationwide that Trump is a threat to the strength, the integrity, the prosperity -- and the people -- of the United States of America.
Democratic Senators knew it was a terrible mistake to give Trump and Musk everything Republicans put in this extremist partisan budget with absolutely zero input from Democrats. That's why the vast majority of Democrats voted, 37-10, against Schumer's incredibly weak-kneed decision to fold on the Trump budget.
They agree with us that the Trump-Musk alliance is already dismantling democracy. They said with their vote that Senator Schumer's decision to cower in fear of Trump's threat to blame us for his own disaster, will simply allow Trump to push us and our country off a terrifying cliff.
TakeItBack.Org was founded a decade ago with the idea that we needed to take back our government from the big money that was poised to steal it from us. Sadly, today our name is more relevant than ever -- only now, the entity we must now fight to take back is our own party.
Schumer can be removed as leader by simple majority vote of his caucus. It takes 20% of the Senate Democratic Conference (10 senators) to call a new vote for minority leader. Then we need only 50% to remove and replace him.
This means if just 24 of the 37 senators who voted against the bill vote together, they can replace Schumer with the leader we need to meet the current disaster. The leader we need to fight Trump, not cave when we need leadership the most.
There have been many times we've been grateful to the leadership Chuck Schumer has provided in the past, but it has become abundantly clear he is not the leader for this moment.
Chuck Schumer needs to go! We need to help him get out now.
Only a hard-fighting progressive Democratic Party has any hope of winning back, not just our government, but the entire crumbling idea of democracy itself. -Rick
